Guru pornima is a day known for the relation of the student and a teacher. As in other countries people celebrate it as a teachers day.
Guru means teacher and poornima is a perticular day on which guru poornima is celebrated according to the hindu calenders.
It is celebrated on 9th july every year on full moon day. This festival is celebrated by every religion but mainly it is celebrated by hindus, jains and buddhists. In India, Nepal and bhutan.
Guru poornima is also known by Vyash poornima. In the month of aashad maas as per the hindu calenders. Buddhists celebrate this festival in the remembrance of lord buddha. On this special day Guru pooja is performed people visit temples. And in many schools functions are held and they perform different activities and students give a present to their teachers.Guru poornima is celebrated from last many years.
And it has many different parts bit the main reason to celebrate the day is lord shivaji. The story goes thousands of years ago when lord shivaji came in the reagion of the himalayas as a yogi. People were unknown about his knowledge and sprituality but people use to come to him and gathered there. Lord shivaji use to meditate for long and long time but while doing so, many times tears came from his eyes and by looking at this people started going from there but there were seven man who stayed there.
Afterwards when shivaji opened his eyes seven man requested lord shiva to share with them what was actually happening to him while meditating. But he ignored them and started the meditation again and those seven man also followed him. Time was going days changed into weeks and weeks into months and months into years but shiva’s attention dint fall again.
Like these 84 years passed and shiva opened his eyes and he was surprised by seeing those seven mans because they had become an receptacles. Now shiva was unable to ignore them and at the next full moon day lord shiva sat facing south as a guru to these seven man. And this incident is known as the guru poornima
